PUP Comments On Dan Silva Situation
posted (April 10, 2014)
And a little more from that PUP press conference, it's been months in the making, but former 3 term Lake I Area Representative, Cordel Hyde, was finally confirmed by the party as the standard bearer who will run in that constituency.

As has been widely reported, Hyde and the party parted ways under less-than-friendly terms, but he's now fully back in the PUP fold. Opposition Leader Fonseca discussed his candidacy today:

Hon. Francis Fonseca, Leader of the Opposition
"Mr. Hyde has applied to be a candidate for the People's United Party in the Lake Independence area and the national executive of the party has approved that application subject to one meeting that we will have, but yes that is the case that Cordel Hyde in fact is the only applicant for Lake Independence and will in fact at some future date, that date has not yet been determine, will be sworn in as the PUP standard bearer in Lake Independence."

Attorney Kareem Musa, the son of Former PUP Leader and Former Prime Minister, Said Musa, will also make his debut as the Standard Bearer for Caribbean Shores. Fonseca discussed it after we asked him about the party's plans for that constituency:

Hon. Francis Fonseca, Leader of the Opposition
"I am tempted to give you the UDP answer when you ask all these party questions, the UDP answer is always "its internal party business" which the media seems to accept and not follow up. But when it comes to the PUP and I am glad you ask because it is the people's business, we are asking people to accept us a future government. We have to be open with the people, so I always laugh when I hear that answer from the UDP. But the pint is yes in Caribbean Shores Mr. Kareem Musa has applied to become the PUP standard bearer for Caribbean Shores."

And as we told you last night, Cayo Central Hopeful Dan Silva accused the National Party Executive of playing favorites with his opponent Luke Espat. The disagreement is over the venue of the upcoming Cayo Central Convention, which Silva says Committee Chair Collet Montejo, and Party Chairman Henry Usher, overruled a decision from the committee which voted on the better location. Today, we asked Fonseca about Silva's accusation, and here's how he responded:

Hon. Francis Fonseca, Leader of the Opposition
"First of all I reject that outright. There is absolutely no favoritism towards Mr. Luke Espat, in fact he consistently accuses me of not wanting him to run on a very consistent basis. In the case of the venue, now we are really dealing with internal party business; the venue for conventions that is a matter is govern by the constitution of the People's United Party. It is a matter which falls under the authority of the chairman of the party. The chairman went down to Cayo Central to meet with the various parties sometime last week I believe and the truth is yes, they truth is they could not agree. One side wanted one school, the other side wanted one school and those things always arise in heated conventions and the chairman of the party Mr. Henry Usher had to ultimately make a decision."
