And while we had the mayor on the subject of drinking and driving, we asked him about the Lighthouse Beer bar that now graces the shoreline at the BTL Park. Well, at least we thought it was a bar, but the mayor told us, it's not!

"Mayor we see the bar in the background, we lost that bottle - the Lighthouse."

"No man, it's not a bar Jules."

"But its painted Lighthouse Beer."

"Because its sponsored by Bowen and Bowen. You used the word bar and I just want to correct you."

"It looks like a bar."

"Yes but a bar has certain legal definition; a bar is place that you can access alcohol without the consumption of food - that's not what that place will be. It's painted that way because one of the good corporate sponsors for the BTL Park project has been Bowen and Bowen and they gave a lot of sponsorship in relation to that facility, but that's like saying that Tavern which is a place that I go quite often is just a bar, it's not a bar. Even though it's named Tavern which connotes that it's a bar."

"But it's not painted Lighthouse green. Aren't you putting a fox in the hen's house? This is just a great family space and then right there is emblazon a huge beer logo in your face."
Mayor Darrell Bradley
"But you have to bear in mind also that it's not a decision that only I make. We have been looking at this from really a community standpoint. We have taken a lot of feedback in relation to the stakeholder group that been created to oversee the monitoring of BTL Park. Everyone is comfortable with the idea, but its wise about it, it's being responsible about it and we have been responsible especially in terms of the placement of that facility and who we are partnering with ensuring that that's well monitored and well managed. When we look at BTL Park there is a branding strategy here to bring together BTL and Bowen and Bowen in a very tasteful way and work with them so that their business and commercial enterprise which has a place in this park can be advance while we also advance the interest of the general public."
Bowen and Bowen is one of the principal corporate sponsors of the BTL Park. The mayor says there will be security in place ot make sure public drunken-ness does not occur.
