posted (May 22, 2014)
Last night we opened the news with the dramatic footage of Levi Brown unconscious out on the pavement just a few hundred feet from our studio - apparently after he was shot. He did have a head injury, but when he got to the hospital, he was responsive, talking and not looking at all like someone who had been shot in the head. It took a catscan to show that he had a gunshot wound to the back of his head, and the bullet was still lodged in there. But remarkably, he is in a stable condition. Monica Bodden spoke to him on the phone today:..

Monica Bodden reporting
57 year old Levi Brown lay flat on his stomach in a pool of blood - his legs, still tangled in his bicycle frame - Meanwhile crowds of spectators gathered around - many shouting at police officers on the scene- begging them to rush the man to the hospital - but the officers informed the crowd that they are not allowed to move him unless he was dead.

So Brown - who had minimal movements at the time- laid there for about 10 minutes - waiting on an ambulance to arrive. When that didn't happen, the officers in the end picked Brown up and put him in the back of a police mobile and quickly bolted off to the KHMH emergency.

"I was supprised to still be alive."

Brown who is a Security Supervisor of J&B Security firm - was shot behind the head at around 6:20 yesterday evening - while riding his bicycle on East Collet canal.

Reaching the corner with Dean Street, he heard a loud bang and right after he became unconscious.

"I don't know what happen. I left St. John's Credit Union riding towards George Street coming over the bridge and when I got over the bridge all I heard was a bang. From there I conscious I was in the hospital when I woke up. I didn't even know that I was shot until I went through a cat scan."

After shooting Brown, the gunman escaped with his knapsack containing a blue deposit bag which had in assorted cheques. Police also noted in a press release that inside Brown's bag had in a .380 pistol with a magazine containing 7 .38 live rounds. Brown told us, he wasn't travelling with any weapons on him.

"I did a deposit at the St. John's Credit Union, but most of their deposits are cheques and that was in my knapsack."

Monica Bodden
"Did you had a weapon inside the bag?"

Levy Brown - Shooting Victim
"No, I had some payroll cash on me for my workers too, but I still found the cash in my pocket."

Brown is listed in a stable condition at the KHMH and doctors are waiting for the swelling behind his head to go down so that they can perform a surgery to remove the bullet that is still lodged behind his head. And just to note, this is not the first time that Brown has been robbed nor shot while on the job. In 2006 - while on duty at St John's Credit Union, Brown was held up by an armed robber and his knapsack stuffed with cheques and his .38 revolver was stolen. Prior to that incident, in another robbery event at the Credit Union, Brown was shot two times in his side.
