Confirmed Homicide In Santana Village
posted (May 22, 2014)
Last night, we told you about 57 year-old Maurice Young, the resident of Santana Village on the Old Northern Highway, who was found decomposing in the bushes behind his house. Well, police have confirmed that he was murdered.

Dr. Mario Estradabran conducted an on-site autopsy which revealed firstly that he was dead for at as much as 72 hours. That is inconsistent with the interview from his best friend who claims that he was last seen on Monday. Another finding from Dr. Estradabran was that he died from a chop wound to the neck. This confirms the suspicions of the villagers who believed that he was the victim of foul play.

Ladyville Police have since been doing their leg-work, and they've detained a man who is currently the prime suspect in Young's murder. 7News understands that police have confiscated some items which they believe are relevant to this investigation.

In somewhat related news, there have been sightings of the fugitive Alex "Cat" Reid in Santana Village. Reid is wanted by police in Corozal and San Ignacio for investigations into several robberies and a murder. And while he is known as Alex "Cat" Reid to police, villagers of Santana tell us that his real name is Hendycott Alexander Reid, and that he's originally from that village. We're told that he moved out of the village some years ago, but since police have been looking for him, he's been seen lurking there a few times. One of the strong suspicions circulating was that Young's murder was somehow connected to the Reid sighting a few weeks ago. We stress though that this is just a rumour, and police are treating it as one of many leads that they are following.
