Teachers Inappropriately Involved W/ Students At Belmopan Baptist Again
posted (May 22, 2014)
7News has confirmed that 2 teachers from the Belmopan Baptist High School are being investigated because they had inappropriate sexual relationships with their female students. We've also been informed that the school is taking serious measures to make sure the story doesn't get out.

It has caught the attention of police and Superintendent Howell Gillett, the commanding officer in Belmopan confirms that his investigators have learned that there was improper behaviour from these teachers.

But the police might not be able to take action. That's because the female students that the teachers are being accused of having an affair with are 16 years and older, thus they have passed the age of consent.

Today, we contacted the school requesting a comment, but we were told that the principal wasn't in office. We were then directed to the vice-principal, who we never got an opportunity to speak with him after waiting. The person who took our call told us that the chairman of the board at the school would be the appropriate person to comment on the matter, and that we would be given a call back. Up to news time, that was not forthcoming.

So, there is nothing official from the school yet on this matter, but what we do know is that the 2 teachers, whose names we can't release because they aren't criminally charged, have received disciplinary action from the management of the school. We're told that one of them was required to resign from his post, and the other was either suspended or terminated. We couldn't verify because no one from the school would address the matter with us.

We're told that a lengthy staff meeting was held this afternoon where the teachers were given strict orders not to release any details to the press. We're told that a sort of media blockade will be activated where if the media calls asking for information, no one will release anything. All official requests will be forwarded to the chairman of the board, the school manager, or the President of the Baptist Association.

The president of the association told us that he is not in a position to comment on the matter because it is a matter better handled by the management of the school. We couldn't reach the school manager.

Viewers may remember that in August of 2012, public scrutiny was focused on the Belmopan Baptist High School after an it emerged that former principal, school counsellor and pastor, Normal Willacey was having an inappropriate relationship with one of his former students.
