UDP Hopeful Speaks About Cayo Convention
posted (May 29, 2014)
At the top of the newscast, we told you about Eduardo Salim Juan, one of the 3 UDP Aspirants for Cayo Northeast who are trying to replace Elvin Penner as Standard Bearer.

The other 2 are former 3-term San Ignacio Mayor John August Jr. and Tony McNab. Though they're all newcomers to the Cayo Northeast Constituency. And as we've told you, although Penner is still an elected area representative, the UDP have distanced themselves from him in the wake of the Citizen Kim passport scandal.

That's left a political vacuum that needs to be filled, and these men want the job. We asked Juan about his campaign today and how he intends to win the convention:

Eduardo Salim Juan - UDP Aspirant, Cayo Northeast
"My strategy is to visit every single house. House to house, deal with our people, find out what the problems in our villages are and the problem that we have with the residents."

"Are you confident?"

Eduardo Salim Juan
"I am very confident. In the Cayo Northeast division, we have approximately 6,000 voters. We have several villages that are entailed; the Los Tambos area in the Spanish Lookout area, we have a part of Spanish Lookout that vote in the Cayo Northeast division, we have Duckrun 1,2, 3, we have Billy White, Santa Familia, Esperanza and we have Marathon. And of course we have other people that vote in the area that lives across in different areas that we must try to find on that day to come in and invite them to come to our convention."

Reporter
"You are also going up against the mayor here in San Ignacio. How do you fear against him?"

Eduardo Salim Juan
"I have no fear with the mayor of San Ignacio, I think he has been the mayor of San Ignacio 3 terms - but that has to do with San Ignacio and Santa Elena obviously and you all know that he will also be a new candidate in Cayo Northeast. First time he is running in this area like myself and Mr. McNab, so there is no fear there. I think that whoever does their homework and visit their people and campaign the best will be the winner on that day."

That convention is scheduled to be held on June 8.
