Borland Family Wants West Charged For Murder
posted (June 2, 2014)
Giovanni Borland was viciously chopped in the head on May 11th in Libertad Village. He died 19 days later on Friday May 30th. For the family who prayed that he would somehow recover from a massive brain injury, it is a terrible, drawn out end to one night of drinking that turned deadly. Joseph West told police that while socializing at a village bar, he and Borland got into an argument. He claims he tried to leave but Borland followed him with a machete. It ended when West chopped Borland in his head. But according to Borland family, he had no machete and it was not only Joseph West involved it the incident. They claimed Borland was attacked by 5 men - all related.

Carl Borland, Uncle of Giovanni Borland
"It happened on the 11th May, 2014 I would say roughly at 11pm in the night. He was socializing at bar in Libertad Village when a fight broke out between him and approximately 5 men whom are all family members, are all related to one family in Libertad and they chased him from the bar all the way to the house that he was staying and when he arrived pretty much in front of the house that he was staying he tripped and fell on his face. When he fell on his face, one of the men took a machete and chop him on the back of his head, they chop off a piece of his skull causing most of his brain to fall out of his head. We know that he went to Libertad to get his passport that he left at a residence in Libertad Village and I would want to assume that it had to do with the consumption of alcohol. But to say what exactly triggered the whole thing would be very difficult for me to say at this time."

"All indications are was that was that I don't think he was carrying a machete, because if he was carrying a machete then he would be the one who would have been doing the chasing and for 5 men to take on and you would say " quintuple benq" a single person that is incapacitated due to intoxication - that is totally out of context. To them all 5 of them, nothing but a spineless, gutless cowards. Police have one that have been charged which I believe his charges should be upgraded today to murder. The other 4 apparently were not fingered in this incident. But what I was made to understand is that two of them are current and serving members of the uniform arm services of this country and if that is so then it seems to me that they didn't learn anything in their training because their mandate is to protect life and property, so if they were there, they should have intervene and stop that thing from going to the extent to which it went."

"The brain injury to his head was so severe. He was in a very deep coma for the 11th up to when he died on Friday. So obviously without any question or any shadow of a doubt that he died as a result of that injury that was inflicted to his head."

"To the criminals, to all of them involved - all 5 of them from Libertad Village, they don't know the pain that they put my family through. They don't know how they caused my people to suffer, but I believe the laws of karma will prevail "what comes around goes around" and today for me tomorrow for you."

Borland leaves behind 4 children. It is of note that in 2003 Borland's younger brother Brandon Borland Reneau was murdered in Punta Gorda Town. His remains have still not yet been found.
