Another Protest For Prof Bain
posted (June 2, 2014)
This weekend, the Belize Evangelical Association of Churches and Belize Action kept their pressure up on the University of the West Indies for the termination of Professor Brendon Bain.

Saturday's protest wasn't nearly as powerful as the first, but still about 30 persons showed up at the Battlefield Park. 7News stopped by and spoke to a few of them. Here's what they had to say:

Patrick Jason Andrews
"We understand that we have a situation that's happening not only in Belize but throughout the Caribbean. We have a professor that has been terminated from his job because of giving his expertise scientific data and facts on a situation as it relates to the HIV/AIDS and how men who have sex with men are more prone to contracting HIV/AIDS virus. I believe that he is voicing his opinion, he is voicing scientific data and he is being victimize, he is being discriminated for that."

Protestor
"I stand in affirmation with all my Christian brothers. I always felt this way, I think the majority of Belizeans do. But if effect it doesn't really matter if the majority does or not, this is a matter of our faith and our faith is severely under attack. We feel that it's come to the point where you cannot believe what you believe."

Protestor
"We are basically out here to stand for God, to stand for what we believe it. We believe in the Godly principles, we believe in the bible, we believe in the word of God and that is essentially why we are here today. We know of this situation where Professor Bain was terminated for his, not only his belief, but his expert testimony in a case and we believe that is a direct attack on free speech."

Protestor
"I am in support of the protest against the firing of Doctor Bain which has serious implications for us here in Belize in terms of freedom of speech, in terms of coming to a situation where we don't to accept the LGBT agenda and if it comes to that we will continue to protest because our children and our future will be tremendously damaged."

The theme of the protest was "Freedom Under Attack".
