A Finance Fair to Dispel Fear Of Finance
posted (June 13, 2014)
For the past 5 years, primary school children from around the country have been participating in financial literacy workshops organized by international accounting firm, Price Waterhouse Coopers and nonprofit Peacework.

The idea is to teach them how to be smart with money by saving, budgeting, and opening small businesses to create opportunities for themselves as entrepreneurs.

That kind of financial literacy is a challenge even for adults, but today, the standard six classes of the Holy Redeemer Primary School organized a finance fair to show how it's done. We stopped in and spoke with the school about the fair:

Organizer
"Every year the PWC they come and hold a workshop, a 3-day financial workshop where they invite the children to come and learn how to make a product, how to sell something, how to advertise and so we have been doing it for a couple of years, but this is the first time we have actually done the fair. So we are waiting to see how it turns out."

Daniel Ortiz
"Tell us about what kind of products you see the kids came up with for this particular fair?"

Organizer
"Some of them came up with the regular stuff like cupcakes, cookies, ideals, but we have some kids who did different things like hair bows, bracelets, so many things I can't even remember the list, but there are a lot of things."

Daniel Ortiz
"Do you see potential entrepreneurs in the making out there?"

Organizer
"Yes, I am amazed at what these kids came up with."

Holy Redeemer will participate in this year's workshops scheduled for next month.
