Prosecutor Remanded For Weapon
posted (June 27, 2014)
33 year old Joseph Nunez, a prosecutor at traffic court, and an employee of Belize City Council, is at prison tonight, after he was taken to court for a firearm offence

Early on Sunday morning, Nunez was with a friend who works as a security guard for Elite Security and when the friend got into an argument with his girlfriend, Nunez suggested to him to hand over the licensed 9 millimeter pistol to avoid getting into trouble. Nunez received the firearm and got on his motorcycle and drove off. He hit a bit of bad luck when a police mobile spotted him. The rear lights for his motorcycle weren't working and Nunez was not wearing a helmet. The police vehicle began to pursue him and caught up with him on West Collet Canal. Nunez then declared that he had the firearm.

He handed it over, but because he didn't have licenses for the gun, he was charged with keeping an unlicensed firearm, and keeping unlicensed ammunition. That's an automatic remand at prison, and our information says that his fellow City Council employees - seen here at court yesterday - tried their best to somehow have him avoid remand.

That didn't happen though because he was arraigned before Magistrate Herbert Panton, and though Nunez pled not guilty to the charges, he was remanded into custody until August 13.
