23 year-old Jeffrey O'Brien, a village resident from Independence was returning home from a fishing trip at around 11 o'clock on Friday night. When he passed by Grant's House 2 pit bulls rushed out, attacked him, and bit him several times. He was discovered by an elderly man in the village who alerted other neighbours. He was then rushed to the hospital, but he died before he could receive medical treatment.

The issue tonight is that police are unsure who the dogs belong to, but they believe that Grant is the owner. Today, we tried to contact Grant herself for comments, but she wasn't available. Her Ministry CEO, Dr. Colin Young, responded to our formal request for a call back, and informed us that Grant was unavailable at this time because she was in a meeting.

Young told us that Grant wished to quell the rumours that she owned any types of dogs. According to Young, Grant doesn't have any dogs, and that her entire yard is fenced all around. He told us that the only dog owner that Grant knows about is her next-door neighbour, and he said that as far as they knew, the attack did not happen near their gate, or inside their yard.

But, while that is the position of Joy Grant, Independence Police aren't buying it that easily. We're reliably informed that police are trying find out who the actual owner is, but right now, Grant is the person who's being looked at. The working theory - and we stressed the word "theory" - at this time, is that if the dogs belong to Grant, they may have escaped from some weak part of her fenced yard, or that the security guard who watches the house may have forgotten to lock the gate.
