posted (July 3, 2014)
Today in Supreme Court Justice's Michelle Arana's courtroom, Gary Sewell's most recent challenge of his extradition was dashed. Justice Arana ruled against his attorney Arthur Saldivar who had contended that the documents provided by the US authorities were insufficient to force an extradition. Justice Arana did not agree, but Outside the court, Saldivar said he will still soldier on and seek an appeal:..

Jules Vasquez
"Sir, you must be disappointed at the outcome, but are you surprised?"

Arthur Saldivar, Attorney for Gary Sewell
"No, I'm not really surprised, in the sense that it's a fifty-fifty proposition in every instance and I expect at a certain point our position will be vindicated and it's just a part of the process."

Jules Vasquez
"What's keeping your client from being extradited at this day?"

Arthur Saldivar, Attorney for Gary Sewell "Well because again we are a country of laws. We have the rule of law and the rule of law requires that after every judgment of a court there is the right of appeal. Until we get to the Caribbean Court of Justice then that is the final stop on the legal train."

"We are in this until justice is done or until the final court makes its decision and whichever way it goes, we are going to give it our best shot."

Jules Vasquez
"What is his state of mind after all these years of this process and being if not a hunted man, a man under remand?"

Arthur Saldivar, Attorney for Gary Sewell
"I've known Gary Sewell for most of his life and most of mine. We actually grew up together in Belmopan, so from my assessment of him, he has been in very high spirits and his mind is as strong as it ever was."

The case next goes for appeal and Saldivar will request a stay of execution.
