Cervantez Jr Critical Of Cops
posted (July 11, 2014)
Since, Wednesday, we've been telling you about the 3 men charged for the kidnapping and murder of Ramon Cervantes Sr. Tonight, 9 days after Cervantes was first abducted from his farm, 22 year-old Noe Daniel Avila; 19 year-old, Angel Antonio Cardenas, and 28 year-old Mateo Pott Jr. are at the Belize Central Prison.

But the Cervantes family is still not satisfied because they believe that more people were involved his kidnapping, apparent torture, and killing. As we told you, early information to police was that two policemen were being monitored because one of them provided a SIM card to one of the accused, and the other sold them a pair of handcuffs. Those handcuffs are believed to be the ones that were reportedly found on the body.

When the 3 accused murderers were first arraigned on Wednesday the waiting crowd in Orange Walk was demanding that police bring out those 2 officers and march them into court for charges also. That didn't happen, and so, the Cervantes Family is questioning why those officers still haven't been criminally charges

Today Ramon Jr - a politician known Monchie granted an interview to our colleagues from Love News where he explained his dissatisfaction about the investigation into the officers, and other troubling aspects of the case:

Ramon Miguel Cervantes, Son of Ramon Cervantes Sr.
"It has started well, very well, the police did corporate, and I will say that. We have noted a slight little changes during the last 2-3 days and we are very disappointed in the fact that the policeman whose handcuffs were used to handcuff my dad was identified. I don't know if he was arrested but if he was arrested he was released. In other words nothing was done to that policeman and we understand from rumors that in fact he has left the country and that disturbs us greatly. Another point is that I just got some information and I don't know the law, I am not a lawyer but supposedly the guys that were charged for the murder were charged after the - I don't know if the 72 hour limit or the 48 hour limit which is a technicality that lawyers used to get off their clients because as I understand it when they are charged after the time that the law allows that that turns in a violation of the suspects rights."

"Have you guys established a motive? Do you have a suspect as to why this happened?"

Ramon Miguel Cervantes, Son of Ramon Cervantes Sr.
"No, we don't have a motive yet and that is why I think` the police should carry on this investigation. That is why we are disturb about everybody else that had been detained to just be release like that because some of them must know and must be able to lead them to who is the owner of the vehicle and who drove the vehicles and to much more information. Like I said, this doesn't stops here, we want to know the motive, we want to know the main conspirator who finance this operation; who is at the head of this operation. That's what we want to know because it's a fact that my dad wasn't kidnapped to extort money out of our family, he was killed. It was a contract or a hit to kill him. The facts established that. It's not just what we feel, but the facts established that."

This evening, we contacted the Director of Public Prosecutions about the possible link of those handcuffs to one of the police officers, and she told us, quote, "My understanding is that that aspect is still under investigation." End Quote. We also contacted, Sr. Supt. Joseph Myvett, the Commander of the Northern Police Region, and when we asked him about the positive identification of that police officer's handcuffs he told us, quote, "I do not know that to be so." End Quote. He also said that all materials in the investigation at this time have been handed over to the DPP's Office.
