KHMH CEO Longsworth Moving On
posted (July 11, 2014)
Dr. Gary Longsworth's six year tenure as CEO of the KHMH is coming to an end. 7News has learned that the KHMH Board of Directors decided at its meeting yesterday not to renew his contract which ends in September. Our understanding is that Longsworth had asked for a renewal.

Longsworth took over the hospital at 2008, and while he did implement some notable programs of improvement, publicly his tenure will always be marred by the May 2013 deaths of 13 babies in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. Longsworth had said he learned of the deaths from hearing it in the news.

Still, for the KHMH board - the decision is not an easy one - since Director of Finance Carlos Perrera was terminated on June 9th., and that very senior post has not been filled. Now, it will have to advertise to fill the post of CEO of a hospital with more than 600 employees.
