posted (July 11, 2014)
Twenty-one year old Jason Awich, a resident of 14 Santa Barbara Street, was sentenced to 7 years today by Senior Magistrate Sharon Fraser after he pled guilty to the charge of burglary.

The crime occurred around 2 a.m. on July 11. The complainant, Vincent Vernon, reported to the police that he was doing some work on his computer when he heard a noise coming from inside his house. He said when he checked he found that Awich had broken in, and he was trying to hide in the bathroom. He said he apprehended Awich and called the police who came and took him into custody. Vernon said when he checked outside the house, he found his camera and additional equipment - to a total value of $3,705, had already been stolen and stashed. He said the items have a combined value of $3,705.

Awich begged the court for leniency and explained that he committed the burglary because he wanted money to help his grandmother get an operation. Senior Magistrate Frazer sentenced him to 7 years for the burglary, but Awich will serve an additional year because he owes the court $1,000 in outstanding fines.
