And about the other senior post which will open up, we asked both the Minister and his CEO about the decision to seek candidates for a new CEO of the Hospital.
First though, he corrected us that Gary Longsworth isn’t actually leaving. His contract isn’t being renewed, but when the Board advertises for candidates for the job, they will also accept his application amongst them:

"Did the board consult you as CEO or Minister Marin when considering not to renew Dr. Longsworth's contract and if so, how long in the making was this decision."

"Well, I sit on the board as a representative of the Ministry of Health, and I know that these have been discussions, but as far as I aware, Dr. Longsworth is well thought of by the board and is welcome to apply, but the board has decided from some time ago that the end of this contract period, it would be appropriate to advertise and give everybody and opportunity to apply for this important position including of course, Dr. Longsworth."

"One of the reports yesterday asked the question to the chairman, if somebody is doing an acceptable or satisfactory job as the head of the hospital, why change, you can't just up and decide you want to change in the department unless there is some sort of suspicions, discrepancies or some issues you have with that person."

"Well I’m not aware of any suspicions or whatever with that person, I think as the chair said yesterday, that the board had just decided several months ago when the contract was renewed that it would be advertised after this period of time and just give any other person who are interested."

"With the CEO I have put it to record, I do believe that we need to change the CEO, I said it on the national assembly, and that’s where it stands."
Longsworth’s contract will expire in September.
