This evening at around five police laid murder charges against a 17 year old female for the murder of her former classmate Chryslin Gladden. First off, because she is a minor we won't share her name or show her picture, but the resident of Doris Brooks Street in Belize City is expected to be taken to court tomorrow where she will be arraigned on a charge of murder.
There is one more stunning development in a case that shocked even the Belize City community where violent crime is commonplace. On Saturday morning, the teenager who had just graduated from Wesley High was found dead in the Lord Ridge Cemetery. She had multiple stab wounds to her neck and face, and a postmortem found that she died from those stab wounds to her neck.
And now, police are saying those stab wounds were inflicted by her 17 year old former classmate at Wesley High. But why would one teenage girl kill another - and to do it in the cemetery? Indeed, it boggles the mind. Today, precinct 2 police discussed the case:..

"So far in our investigation is that this female was socializing with another female and others at a certain area in the Boots Crescent area and from there was last seen leaving with the female. So far, we have a female and a male person detained and we should hear positive results in the next hours."

"Has your investigation determined she was killed in the cemetery or her body was taken there?"

"All indication is that she was killed at the cemetery. We recovered a knife that had apparent blood which was found in the vicinity of the cemetery and we believe it's the murder weapon."

"Sir, but that was found like I believe it was a street nearby and someone had to show you where that was."

"Yes indeed the knife was found a distance away from the cemetery but we believe it is the murder weapon."

"We believe that this murder was as a result of jealousy and hatred."
And while two were detained, police sent a release today saying the 17 year old female was charged. Since then, we have learned that both her name and that of her boyfriend, also a minor, are on the charge sheet - but he is reported to be at large.
One man who has been released without charges is a police constable who was friendly to the teenage girl. He was detained on Saturday - but today the lead investigator explained why he was released:..

"Indeed we had a police officer detained in reference to this murder, however, he has been cleared up; his name has been cleared up and he has been released. Based on our investigation so far the police is not involved."
