GSU’s Surge of Seizures
posted (August 5, 2014)
We haven't heard much from the Gang Suppression Unit since former Commander Marco Vidal was transferred, but today the Unit updated the media on some significant drug and ammunition seizures. It started last week Thursday when roughly 1.2 pounds of cannabis was found near the yard of a person they say is a well-known drug trafficker in Belama Phase 4. It happened during a search of the residence, but the drugs were found in two plastic bags in a white bucket behind the property. It was deposited as found property since no one was around when the weed was discovered.

The next bust happened yesterday at about 15 miles outside of Burrell Boom Village. A 16 gauge shotgun was found loaded with one cartridge near a lagoon. It was found during a joint search by the GSU and the Belize Special Assignment Group. The search continued in Burrel Boom Village near a Chinese shop. This time, a black plastic bag containing 6 parcels of cannabis was found. In total, it weighed 2.4 ounces, but once again it was labelled as found property since no one was around when it was discovered.

Then last night at 11:00, the GSU went to Neal Pen Road after receiving information that shots had been fired. They covered the nearest escape routes in the Kraal Road Area, which is the base of the Kraal Road Gang. 4 men were apprehended as a result, but not before one of the intercepted men stuffed a black 9 mm pistol between a cement block and a zinc fence. The words "Gilly Guny" and "SSG" were engraved on the pistol grip, and the weapon contained 9 rounds of ammunition. 25 year old Glenford Stephaun Bain , a construction worker from Rivero Street Extension, was arrested and charged with "kept firearm and ammunition without a license." SSG is the acronym for the South Side Gangsters, which is an ally to the Kraal Road Gang.

Finally, 2 seizures were made today, one on Yorke Street and the other in the 8 miles community. The first was a result of a search on an empty lot on Yorke Street where a white bucket containing 6 plastic bags of cannabis was found. The drugs added up to 9.7 pounds, but no one was in the area at the time so it was labelled as "found property."

The team continued the operation in the 8 miles community where they searched the home of Shakidi Baizer, a 19 year old laborer. When they searched his room, 6 transparent bags were found with 0.2 ounces of cannabis. Baizer was arrested and charged with "possession of controlled drugs."
