posted (August 12, 2014)
Members of the National Assembly from various Caribbean countries convened today at the Biltmore Plaza to discuss issues and setbacks faced in parliament and to devise solutions. Speaker of the House of Representatives, Michael Peyrefitte told the press office more about the event.

Michael Peyrefitte
"Today's event is a meeting for the Caribbean region for the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association. As you may know all the Commonwealth countries the parliament they have an association and within that one worldwide association there is the Caribbean region, so we have the Caribbean version of the CPA. Today we are hosting a meeting of deputy clerks and other members of staff in the National Assembly of the various Caribbean countries. We are hosting this meeting for clerks and other members of staff to get to know each other, get to share ideas, give their inputs as to how to improve parliamentary procedures within the region. It's a think tank kind of thing, more like a mixer. We want then to have open and frank discussion about what happens in their parliaments and hopefully we can improve on standing orders; we can improve of what the role of speaker should be, the whips, the lead in the House - it is just a sharing of ideas in order to better improve essentially what we do in the business of parliament."

Michael Peyrefitte is the chairman for the Caribbean region of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association. The meeting concludes on Friday

We went for our own interview but bot faithful to the spirit of representative parliament in the modern era, we were told we weren't invited - it was reserved for the press office.
