The National Bank, One Year Later
posted (September 2, 2014)
Today the National Bank celebrated its 1st Anniversary. Although it is a new bank, Deputy General Manager Janet Arnold says they are doing well so far but, conceded that, inevitably there will be difficulties in the initial phases of operation. She shared some of those challenges.

Janet Arnold, Deputy General Manager
"We are celebrating a major milestone. I think we have accomplish just about exactly what the Prime Minister was saying; provide affordable banking services to all Belizeans. As our motto says "Of the people, for the people" really those are the people we have catered to. A nutshell 20 million was put aside for the bank. we have approved up to 23 million at this time. We have disbursed 13 plus million, so I think we are not only on target, we are well beyond the plan. We have to admit we have experience some delays, but understandably it's been so many applications which it is good in a way because it tells us that we are providing a service that is clearly very needed. We have added staff basically to address this need, so we do expect the timeframe, the turn around to be much better after this."

The bank celebrated its anniversary with a week of activities.
