Revellers Ready For The Road, But Is The Road Ready For Them?
posted (September 4, 2014)
And CISCO Construction is hoping that the climate doesn't change in the next 9 days as the company rushes to try and get all of Central American Boulevard ready for the Carnival Road March.

It's only about two miles from the Belcan Bridge to Caesar Ridge Road, but work on the Boulevard is a major project with drainage, sidewalks, a roundabout and a dual carriageway. It started in February of this year and was supposed to take one year, but right now, work is at hyper speed, as CISCO Construction tries to get all of the Road March route ready - even if some of it has to be one lane only. Presently 250 men and women are working on four different areas of the Boulevard and Princess Margaret Drive - and today Francis Woods told us they'll make it in time for a smooth road march:

Francis Woods, Contractor - CISCO Construction
"For carnival in particular we are trying to get much done as possible. We figure that there will only be like a 400 foot stretch that the carnival will not roll on fresh concrete, new concrete."

Jules Vasquez
"That 400 foot stretch is right at the head?"

Francis Woods, Contractor - CISCO Construction
"It will be between Freedom Street which is pretty much right behind me and Jane Usher Boulevard. One piece from the flag roundabout to Karl Heusner entrance - we hope to have the right hand side piece finish. We are still waiting on test results from BWS. They are doing their pressure tests and stuff, so we will tackle that as soon as we get permission to go ahead. But we plan to have that side complete. Half of the section, the piece that the parade will actually roll on most of it will be finish - from Faber's Road all the way up to BelCan - actually all the way up to Marion Jones should be all solid - all finish."

Jules Vasquez
"So your advice to the carnival organizers is to set up as usual on Caesar Ridge Road?"

Francis Woods, Contractor - CISCO Construction
"Absolutely. To be honest with you carnival date has been a big target for us at CISCO to try to get as much done as possible for that because everybody they need that smooth surface to roll their big costumes on and of course with the tumblers. I have fun in watching the carnival and I can remember in particular by closer to Traders when the tumblers were doing their thing and I saw them going down on pieces of stones and stuff like that. I don't know how they did it."

Best indications are that carnival Organizer's will start as USUAL from Caesar Ridge Road and go the full length of the Boulevard.
