Mayor Says He Will Have A Solution For Belmopan Market Vendors
posted (September 5, 2014)
On Tuesday we told you about the distraught market vendors in Belmopan who claim that the city council is charging them outrageous fees for a spot at the new market place in front of the Civic Center. Well, today at a meeting between the Mayor and the vendors, he told us that the fees are not outrageous at all and that he has negotiated a feasible payment plan with the vendors.

Simeon Lopez, Mayor - Belmopan City
"As to increase in prices no, it's only $2 per day. What we were suggesting you can pay the one thousand dollars plus in advance and that's okay, we don't have to collect from you from the rest of the year again. Lots of them couldn't meet that and we agree well, we will charge you per month."

The project is funded through the EU and channeled through the Ministry of Works. The Mayor states that after the walk through of the facility on Monday, he may be able to inform the vendors when they will be moving to the newly renovated market place.
