Inspector Flowers Investigation Update
posted (October 1, 2014)

All through the newscast, we've been telling you about the police brutality allegations being investigated by officers of the Professional Standards Branch.

Well, one allegation which we didn't tell you about was that one against GSU's Commander Mark Flowers, in which Tamra McFoy and her sister reported that he roughed them and a group of children up while on Wilson Street.

As we showed also, Allan McCoy also accused the commander of joining his officers on Saturday in the beatdown when they were accusing him of knocking one of their own officers down in a hit and run.

Well, today, we asked about those two complaints against Flowers, and the OC of the Belize Districts Professional Standards Branch told us that because of Flower's Inspector Rank, his case will be dealt with by the Public Service Commission, which complicates things;

ASP Glen Rivero - OC, Professional Standard Branch

"This morning, myself and assistant commissioner Leal, who is my commander met. He was furnished with a copy of the investigation so far. As it relates to any senior officer, when it comes to violation of standards, procedures, disciplinary procedures, these matters is dealt with by the services commission. So that is the reason why Mr. Leal came forward this morning, he got a copy of it, the matter will be discussed with the commissioner, so they can see what offences if any Mr. Flowers can be dealt with through that disciplinary body."

We'll keep following the case.
