More Cops Face Serious Charges

Last night, we told you about the outrageous complaint against police in which a Belize City resident discovered that her jewelry was stolen when a team of police officers searched her home. Well, tonight, we can reveal the identity of Constable 1096 Jamille Scott, the officer who police caught red handed with the woman's jewelry.

As we told you, Scott was part of the team who searched the woman's Antelope Street home yesterday, and while it was happening, she realized that her jewelry was missing. She acted quickly enough, and reported it to police. The officers were all ordered to remain at the site of the search, but Scott allegedly left, and so police officers followed him. They stopped him on an uninsured motorcycle, and when they searched him, they found the missing jewelry on him. He has since been charged with theft and handling stolen goods.

Then, as we told you, there was the case of 22 year-old Tramane Ciego, the young man who says that 2 police officers inflicted a major beatdown on him on Sunday night. He walked us through the incident, where he claims he was coming home from work after getting his pay cheque cashed, and he then went to buy food. While heading to his house, the officers stopped and searched him at his lane, and they then put him to kneel down on the ground. Ciego says that the officers brutalized him, kicked him into the canal, put a gun to his head, and then stole $490 from his pay, money he would have used to pay his mother's bills.

Well, as we told you, the police Professional Standards Branch investigated his report, and they ended up charging Constable 1595 Edgar Depaz and Constable 1345 Jefferson Dawson jointly with robbery and wounding. Dawson was additionally charged with threatening words and aggravated assault.

And in the last complaint, which has seen some progress, the officers who allegedly brutalized Armani Bailey, JP Grace Flowers' nephew, have also been charged internally with disciplinary charges. They are Constable Larry Sutherland and Constable Wayne Trapp. Both officers have been charged with one count of being uncivil when on duty, and Sutherland was additionally charged with prejudice to good order and discipline when he allegedly harmed Bailey.
