TD-9 Forms Into TS Hanna, Now Weakening
posted (October 27, 2014)
When we left you on Friday night we were talking about Tropical Depression 9, which was dumping rain over Belize as it jogged east back into the Caribbean. The models predicted that the weekend cold front would break up the system - but tonight, TD9 is still around, except that it is became Tropical Storm Hanna this afternoon as it touched down on the border of Honduras and Nicaragua. The good news tonight is that it is weakening and at 6:00 pm, it was a Tropical Depression with winds of 35 miles per hour.

NEMO today issued an advisory saying, quote, "Tropical Storm Hanna currently poses no significant threat to Belize." End quote.

But, the advisory does warn that the main threat from Hanna is heavy rainfall and squally conditions. That's because the Rio Hondo and Mopan Rivers are rising slowly. The Low-lying Bridge and the Iguana Creek Bridge on the Macal River are at flood state. Both the Baking Pot and Succotz ferries remain closed.
