Cemented City Streets Being Dug Up For Drainage
posted (October 27, 2014)
The flood mitigation project is causing significantly less stress for the mayor. That's because it is funded and executed by Central Government. But it was causing stress to drivers today when Douglas Jones Street at its junction with the Bel China bridge was closed. The mayor explained that it's all about drainage:..

Darrell Bradley, Mayor - Belize City
"You can see work going on right beside Princess Hotel in an area of Sanlighters Prominade - they are digging up an area there. All of this is to connect the drainage system from the Douglas Jones canal under the street having that go through Cinderella Plaza, go up Baymen Avenue, go to the side of Calle Del Mar and then out into the Caribbean Sea and the connecting of those two waterways; the canal and then the Caribbean Sea would alleviate tremendous amount of water flow problems and drainage problems in that area. We just ask for patience and we are doing the best we can to ensure that everything is done quickly but also safely and professionally."

The flood mitigation project will take 8 months to complete.
