posted (November 3, 2014)
Ladyville Police are awaiting a post mortem result for a man who was found dead on a feeder road off the northern highway at mile 19. At 5:30 this morning, 61-year-old Gilbert Dawson was found dead in the bush outside of his Geo Tracker - on which the lights were still on and the engine running. We spoke to a friend who was called to the scene - he told us what he saw:..

Ismael Requena, Friend of Gilbert Dawson
"Mr. Gilbert Dawson is my personal buddy and we did go to his house myself and my compadre, Mr. Armstrong and we were socializing for about 2 hours and then we decided to come to Sandhill. Actually he said that he wanted to purchase telephone credit and we stop at Every Day Supermarket at 19 miles and we socialize again for a little while there and then I left both of them there around 6pm yesterday. Then this morning I received a call from his daughter telling me that they had found him dead through a road by 19 miles and so I immediately went to the scene and when I reach there I saw his vehicle still running, the lights on, the door open, parked and the body thrown in the nearby bushes."

Voice Of: Mrs. Dawson - wife of deceased
"It looks like he was coming from their house, I don't really know where they live. Maybe they gave him something in his drink. You could never know because he was drinking. When someone doesn't like you, you should not be around them. That's all I can say."

Ismael Requena, Friend of Gilbert Dawson
"We will have to wait for the post mortem. Every and anything is possible especially given these times that we live in."

Jules Vasquez
"One theory because of the blueness in his face that he may have had a heart attack or something like that - some cardiac event."

Ismael Requena, Friend of Gilbert Dawson
"He has been suffering from high blood pressure, but yesterday he wasn't complaining any at all and in fact he had told us that he was feeling well. I have lost a very good friend and I am sure that his family has also lost a very loving father and I think the community has lost a very good mechanic because that is one of the things he loved most."

The post mortem is scheduled for tomorrow afternoon and until then police are treating it as an open investigation. His family alleges that he may have been poisoned.
