Tonight, the family of 24 Ladyville year-old resident Ryan Martinez continues to mourn his death after he was killed in a traffic accident near the Haulover Bridge on Sunday morning at 2:00 am.
According to police, it happened in the early morning hours where Martinez and 22 year-old Irene Sanchez from Orange Walk were traveling in a Lincoln MKZ car. They were heading toward Ladyville, and just as they crossed the bridge, the driver lost control of the vehicle, wrapping it around a tree with a few mangroves around.
Both Martinez and Sanchez were trapped in the vehicle, and had to be rescued by emergency personnel. Sanchez made it to the hospital where the doctors were able to save her life; Martinez's injuries were to severe, however, and it is believed that he died on impact or shortly after.
Of important note is that Martinez was a public officer working as a civilian prosecutor.
