Ya-Ya’s One Woman Protest
posted (November 3, 2014)
Ya-Ya Marin Coleman has perfected the one woman protest - and she's proven her determination by going at it consistently without fanfare. Today she was in downtown Belize City protesting against the Eastern Division main police detention cell block - which has a well-deserved unsavory name. Now, it's had that name for decades, but YaYa says it has to change:..

Yaya-Marin Coleman - Activist
"I've been into the Queen Street Police Station a number of times and just walking into the first floor, the stench is unprofessional/unbelievable. I am sure my sentiments are similar to many Belizeans for all holding cells at police stations and precincts in this country to be refurbished to professional standards - that they are patrol by officers regularly. So those people in those holding cells have an opportunity to use the bathroom when they need to."

"Being in there was a good things because I didn't experience firsthand what goes on in that pisshouse. No human being should be going through that treatment. I think that owe it to this country to come out and say shut down that damn place or clean it up."

Yaya-Marin Coleman - Activist
"I intend to be here on Mondays as long as they intend to give me the permit to be out here for."

As you heard, YaYa says she'll be back out there next week.
