Accident Victim Yanie Cu, The Pain Continues
posted (November 14, 2014)
Last night, we briefly showed you the hard time that Yanie Cu and his family have been going through since his accident with Deputy Police Commissioner Miguel Segura.

He's been trying to return to full health, but the process has been slow, and his wife and 2 sons, have also been negatively affected.

We visited with his Cu and his wife yesterday, and tonight, we show you what life has been like for them since the morning of Saturday, August 16.

Daniel Ortiz reporting
28 year-old Yanie Cu has been bedridden for 3 months since his accident with Miguel Segura. He has to endure constant, excruciating pain.

Metal Pins hold the bones of his hand and his leg in place while they heal, but it's it has been a very slow process of recovery, with no estimation of therapy time in sight.

This family's financial health remains uncertain. He is the breadwinner for his family of two children and a wife, which he has to support. But right now, he's unable to do so .His wife must now take on all that responsibility.

Roselia Cu
"First of all, it has been something unexplainable, and something that no one expect, and can prepare for."

"Now, to wait on nothing, I can't work. My children - and thanks to insurance, we have gotten the necessary medication, and we paid for majority of the operation which was very expensive."

Roselia Cu waits at home, day after day as Yanie inches toward recovery, and the burden has been taxing, with few comforts.

Roselia Cu
"The people motivate me to continue forward, and every time I look on the smiles of my children. They give me more strength to move forward because sometimes he is in a lot pain, and he screams out loud. It is something that I say to myself, if he screams, I can't do the same. I have to show him that I have strength and motivation to give him."

So, how long until the Cu family can put this arduous experience behind them?

Roselia Cu
"We are waiting for news on the injuries to his hand. It's a long process and those pins in his hand needs to come out."

"He's getting better. The doctor says that he might be able to walk after he heals. But, he can't start the therapy for his hand because it's still broken. It's something very difficult because, if it was only his waist, and his hand wasn't broken, he could start the therapy for his legs. But the thing is, his hand needs therapy, and he can't support his body with only a hand and a leg."

Prime Minister Dean Barrow has expressed a willingness to assist the family financially, but he has been very careful in the mode of doing so, because Deputy Commissioner Segura is not accepting liability for the accident. As you heard in the interview, all of the financing for their medical expenses so far haS come from Atlantic Insurance.
