Emerson, Zimbab's Relative, Gunned Down
posted (November 28, 2014)
There was a murder in the city early this morning. At around 6:45 police arrived on Gibnut Street right after 35 year old Emmerson Arnold had been shot 7 times to the back. Area residents say that after he lay gasping on the ground some minutes, police finally took him to the KHMH where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Arnold, an employee of the Belize Water Services was on his way to work this morning when he was gunned down by a man in a hoodie who rode up and shot him off his bicycle.

Now, it has the appearance of being less than random because Arnold lives on Lakeview Street, and just last week, Carlos Zimbab Abraham, a George Street general was shot in front of Arnold's family residence. Abraham is also a relative to Arnold but today his family told Monica Bodden they strongly believe that both incidents are not linked.

Voice of Sister of Deceased
"When I went to see him, he was already dead."

Monica Bodden
"Emmerson was on his way to work?"

Voice of Sister of Deceased
"Yes, he works at WASA and usually it's a route that he takes every morning and I don't know what got into the person who did it. I can't say right now."

Monica Bodden
"How many shots he received?"

Voice of Sister of Deceased
"About 7 shots because about 8-9 shots I heard and about 7 he got in his back."

Monica Bodden
"There was a shooting in front of your dad's place. Do you think that Emmerson's murder may have been some sort of retaliation or anything?"

Voice of Sister of Deceased
"No. Although the young man and I who got shot are family, we are related, but I don't its anything concerning that shooting because my brother doesn't trouble anyone. So I don't think it's any gun violence and thing. He doesn't even stay here. He would go to Caye Caulker to visit his daughter, he goes to Honduras to visit his daughter and he comes here and hang out with his cousins on the canal side by Queen Square. Other than that he doesn't want to hang around here for the same reason because of the area that we live in. I will have a memory because he died on my birthday, so it will hurt. Every year the 28th November I will remember him because it's on my birthday. I will never forget that."

He was the father of 4 children.

So far police have one suspect detained for the murder.
