BELTRAIDE Graduates 85
posted (December 17, 2014)

After 3 weeks, 85 participants from Beltraide's Training and Employment Program graduated today. The main objective of the program is to make the trainees "employable" principally for the outsourcing industry but also for other career paths. At a ceremony held at the ITVET dining room to honor these graduates, 2 of them explained how the skills and experience they acquired from the program will enhance their chances at starting their careers.

Lejia Melanie Gideon - General Manger, Entrepreneurship and Innovation Division

"Those would be something we term soft skills. How to communicate properly with your coworker and supervisor. How to take constructive criticism, how to carry yourself, how to dress, how to brush your hair. How to manage your pay check, financing training. These are what we call the soft skills. The thing that makes btec different than the other training institutions is that we are on demand and we consider our clients, not our graduates but actually the companies. We go to them, we understand the skills set they are looking for at the entry level employees. We design a curriculum they must validate and also understand the nuder of vacancies they are looking to fill in a particular period and that is the number of people we would train. We generally try to match the same amount of people we are training to the jobs that are available."

Cristine Smith - Manger, Belize Training and Employment Center

"One of our major challenge has been in terms of getting people to stay within the programme. While we've had great success in terms of the number of persons who have come in, in terms who have come in and taken the pre test have committed to training. We have a 80 percent rate, so we do recognise while people do come into the training, they follow through is not often there."

Lindsay Haulze - Graduate

"It was basically exciting. What i've acquired was better typing skills, I'm at 30 words per minute now and also articulating my skills better. How to use them in the work force and people's skills."

Jereen Garcia - Graduate

"Well my 3 weeks of training was great. I learned about budgeting, learning to deal with difficult people, that was a challenge for me. I really see myself working at a front desk or a receptionist."

42 out of the 85 participants are fully employed.

Coordinators are also partnering with the BTIA and other tourism organizations to place future participants.
