PUP Launches CITCO Slate
posted (December 17, 2014)

In our last segment, you heard PUP Mayoral candidate Yolanda Schakron's about Mayor Darrell Bradley's antics. She spoke to us after the political fanfare at Independence Hall in the PUP city council slate for Belize City was introduced.

It was long delayed and today they tried to show that it was worth the wait:

Yolanda Schakron - PUP Mayoral Candidate

"I want to take this opportunity to introduce my fellow team members who are committed a positive change in city hall for a better quality of life for those of us living in Belize City. I will start with Jeremy Galvez. David Gonzales and of course the youngest one of the team, Micah Gooden. Would you remember when those poor workers from BML were locked up because this mayor didn't want to pay them, we have the one leading that fought, Delroy Pererra. I have 3 great women and I will start will Deltroy Hilton. We have another small business owner, a young man, Michael Novelo. You know we have beautiful women, Natasha Pipersberg. We have Sanjay Pitts, he has dedicated his service to after school sports programmes. Next we have Lennox Young. Lennox has over 10 years of experience as a business man. Last but not least, another great woman, Sharette Yearwood. Sharette has over 10 years of dedicated service as an educator."

But, before this launch, we received reports that the PUP was forced to push back the event to accommodate persons who changed their minds about running when the party announced that Schakron would be the Mayoral candidate. Party Leader, Francis Fonseca said that's ridiculous:

Daniel Ortiz

"It seems that the city council slate for Belize has been laid unduly, why so?"

Hon. Francis Fonseca - Leader of the Opposition

"I've said that before and I've said go back into your archives and you will find that we have always presented our slate to the Belize around this time. I was looking at my own records at two previous occasions we did it January. So that's a mystery only the media seems to be caught up in. The reality is, this is how we've always done it. There's always an intensive 8 to 10 weeks campaign."

Daniel Ortiz

"Our information was that when the party decided on Ms. Yolanda Schakron, persons decided to opt out and caused a bit of confusion, you needed to scramble to find replacements."

Hon. Francis Fonseca

"That's complete nonsense, with the greatest of respect. On the contrary we had well over 20 candidates who wanted to run for the city council and that was our greatest challenge. Talking to people to step aside in favour for others and to continue support the team. We had an abundance of people who wanted to run and we're very proud of the team we've put together."

These are the candidates who are challenging the incumbent UDP City Councillors on March 15.
