Mother Angry Over Her Son’s Remains
posted (December 29, 2014)
Ladyville Police are also responsible for the case involving the remains which were found Thursday, December 18, at Dew Drops Area at mile 11 and a half on the Northern Highway.

They were said to be the remains of 23 year-old Marvin Rafael Bul, originally from Ladyville Village. His mother is convinced based on the discovery of the clothing and his identification card, which was found in the pants pocket on the scene.

So, on public record the bones are identified as Marvin Bul's, but the medical examiner, we're told won't make such a bold statement until conclusive tests say that the remains are his.

That's causing his mother considerable distress; she's convinced that the remains are her son's but, she cannot get a death certificate and rights to bury him. She told us today that she just wants closure:

Antonia Cal, Mother of Marvin Bul
"I believe it is my son because what happen is that they went for me at my work, not knowing what situation I will meet my son in. They took me where they found the skeleton and when the bring me back they showed me the pants and told them yes. They showed me the boxers and the short pants and I told them yes, but the shirt, no. But I know that's my son's clothes. They told me to come to KHMH to get the death certificate and I came and now when I reach h and went to the morgue, the morgue told me until Tuesday. Now Tuesday we were there all day long, until 3pm they attended to us. When the CIB came out, he said that he wasn't too sure if it was your son, we have to go do more investigation. So now, I am waiting and waiting and I came to the doctor and the doctor said that he can't do anything, he has to wait on the police. Now I call the police again, he said he has to wait for the doctor. I need to know what is going on. How long this will take, forever? Why they cannot please me, so I can finish with the bones and just bury it? I can't do anything else. I just need to let my son go rest."

Daniel Ortiz
"Ma'am, not knowing and being unsure now....?"

Antonia Cal, Mother of Marvin Bul
"I call Placencia, I call Punta Gorda where my family is and he is nowhere to be found, and between 18th December to now, hello, my son could have call me, mom, it's me, I am living. And then when the police told me that its 3 weeks already that the body is decomposed, so you know, my son could have call me. I need to know what it is. I need to get closure. I am a mother. I need to know. I cannot sleep night and day because I am worrying about him where he is. My phone rings, I need to know who it is. Even a strange number, I have to ask who they are because I need to know is my son is still alive. If my son doesn't have a phone, I know he will buy a phone and text me."

Today, the police told us why the death certificate is delayed:

Insp. Frederick Gordon - Rural Executive Officer
"What happened, the bones found at 12 miles is still under review by the pathologist and we haven't received any further report on that, but the matter is ongoing with the pathologist at this time."

Daniel Ortiz
"Is there any reason to believe that the bones may not be Mr. Marvin Bul's as was the line of thinking when Ms. Cal identified the clothes and the ID that was found on the body?"

Insp. Frederick Gordon
"What happen is that the mother has claimed that she had identified the clothes belonging to her son and the identification found on the body. That is just the identification, but what happen, you have initial investigation stage and we have to wait until we get a conclusive report, then we can say yes that is so."

Those tests are not completed as yet, and so, Antonia Cal won't get those rights any time until the medical examiner is sure.
