posted (January 5, 2015)
A 19-year-old was shot and killed in Belmopan last night but the circumstances surrounding the shooting are questionable. After 7:00 last night 19 year old Kevin Vasquez approached 31 year old Belize City Native Mark Conorquie in his yard.

Conorquie noticed that Vasquez was pulling out a gun from his waist and tried to defend himself by fighting Vasquez off. That was when the 3 shots were fired hitting Vasquez in the head, chest and upper leg. Police are still trying to unravel the shooting and are not calling it murder just yet. The officer commanding shared the information they have so far.

Supt. Howell Gillett - OC, Belmopan Police
"There about 7pm last night which was the 4th January 2015, we received information of shots being fired in the Salvapan area in Belmopan. Upon our arrival we discovered that a person's body was at the scene who we later learn to be Kevin Vasquez of a Chile Street here in Belmopan. The person had visible gunshot wounds to the upper and lower parts of the body, was transported to the Western Regional Hospital where the body was pronounced dead on arrival."

Police say a .38 revolver was used. They have two motives so far. Police also mentioned that Vasquez has had previous charges for kidnapping, attempted murder and was named as a suspect in connection with a burglary in Belmopan. Police are also looking for other persons who may have played a role in this latest shooting.
