A Road To Lazaro
posted (January 22, 2015)
Orange Walk residents travelling Between the San Lazaro and August Pine Ridge will have a smoother drive because 10.5 kilometres of the road has been fixed. It was officially opened with a ceremony led by the EU Delegation to Belize, Ambassador Paola Amadei, and officials from the Ministry of Works.

The rehabilitation of this stretch of road was financed by the European Union and the Government of Belize, through funds from the EU's Accompanying Measures for Sugar Program, which is being undertaken in 4 phases. The total cost for the repairs to the road is 4.4 million dollars.

According to the Government of Belize, this improvement should provide relief for cane farmers trying to transport their product through this area. The overall objective of the AMS programme is to contribute to poverty reduction and improve the standard of living for sugar dependent communities along Northern Belize.
