Dr. Marco Tulio Mendez and his attorney are waiting tonight for police to inform them when they will formally charge him for child molestation. The allegations against him are that two teenaged girls have accused him of inappropriate behavior which supposedly took place when they were little girls.
Mendez, who is the Area Representative from Orange Walk East, waited most of today to hear from police if they had completed their paper work for the charges, and we're told that police may bring as many as 9 separate offences against him. The expectation was that Mendez was to have been requested to come in today to be arrested. That didn't happen because, according to our sources, the investigators encountered legal issues, which required legal advice.
Viewers may remember that police aren't obliged anymore to consult with the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions on different cases, and our inquiry with her says that up to this morning at around 8:30, no information was sent to her for perusal. The investigators, we are told, did so later in the morning because they wanted to be sure that they are proceeding with a proper case. Our information is that at this time, police are waiting for the DPP's input before the charges are laid. We've contacted her this evening to confirm our information, but up until news time she did not respond.
So, that's where it is tonight, Dr. Mendez is not charged, but he is on standby to come in as soon as he is instructed by his attorney, Dickey Bradley, to do so. IT is a virtual certainty that he will be charged later this week. Thereafter his party to PUP will have to make a big decision on how it will handle him - since he will become the first elected representative on record to be charged for such a crime.
