He told us why Benque will choose him:

"My 6 years at Traffic Department motivated me to serve the people and I have been there for 6 years working with the people in Benque and its one of the main point why I decided to run, apart from my friends and my family who had me pushed and supporting me. Yesterday, we had almost over 300 people. We had a big crowd compared to the opponent. I think our crowd was much larger than what they had."

"Now, sir, it's seeing as though the outgoing Mayor has decided that he won't run. Do you all believe that will have any kind of effect on the voters deciding to return a UDP slate for Benque Viejo?"

"No, not at all. Our mayor has been supporting us. The past mayors as well. We are all working together, so it has no effect in our term."

Benque Viejo has been voting in UDP councils since the year 2000.

But, the man who wants to break that streak is Alfredo Kuylen, who is a career educator for over 25 years. He's challenging Ramcharan under a PUP ticket, and this afternoon, he told us that Benque is ready to try an opposition town council:

"I decided to do something with this after thinking for quite some time. It took me some years, not a few months. I think Benque deserves something much better. I didn't like the way things were being done, the process that were being followed, people that were being told what to do - I thought that this was the time for me to come in."

"Talk to us about nomination day yesterday. How did it got for you and the other team members?"

"To me yesterday was really excellent. I actually am quite excited because, the response - contrary to what people might say, we are living under pressure here. The response was massive, excellent and people are afraid to come out. You see that's one of the issues that we are having here; people are afraid to show their faces, because they fear. Its fear that we have here you see. The whole country basically."

"The mayoral candidate for the next side, he is saying that he will be able to make a seamless transition if the people choose him because of the work that the outgoing mayor is doing. Is that something that you agree with or is it something that you dispute greatly?"

"I dispute. Actually, the actual mayor right now is not even in power. He only is use to sign and to be present at presentations and official events, but nothing else. The one in charge is the one running right now. I don't think that he will be able to make dent in my opportunity. I am a teacher of 24 years in this institution. I have lived here all my life and people know me. Basically, I have the advantage over everything."
