Unlicensed Driver Knocks Down Septuagenarian
posted (February 18, 2015)

A 70 year old woman was knocked down in Belize City today – and is hospitalized tonight. She was knocked down by a 19-year-old driver who has no license. It happened around 1:30 in Belize City on Water Lane at its junction with Baghdad Street. Police believe the driver – who was in an SUV borrowed from his boss – came too fast out of Water Lane when he hit a vehicle on the right hand side, then swerved left to compensate. And that's when he burst two water mains, raked down a fence, and knocked down the senior citizen. She received extensive facial and other injuries. After that, he still hit another vehicle.

Tonight, the 19 year old is in custody pending charges, and police have also detained his boss, a Chinese businessman who will also be charged for allowing someone to drive without a license.

The teenaged driver told police that the vehicle was stuck in gear and he couldn't control it. The vehicle is an automatic – so police doubt his story.
