Christian Ebanks Freed Of Firearm Charges

It made major news in May of last year when Christian Ebanks, was picked up by police on a firearm charge. But tonight, he's out free of that charge here in Belize after he was acquitted in the Magistrate's Court yesterday.

7News was there when officers of the Gang Suppression Unit searched his house on Teachers Street, Belize City, and they found a concealed weapon. That meant that that he was charged with keeping an unlicensed firearm, and since then, he's been facing Magistrate's Court on that offence.

The officer who searched his house testified that they found the weapon in shoved inside an oven. In his defence, Ebanks told the court simply that he told the court that he didn't know that a gun was there.

He told the court that at that time he was having marital problems with his now estranged wife, Amber Edwards and that on the day the incident occurred, she was the only one who knew that he was going to that house after he told her that he was ending their relationship. He told the court that on the day in question, he left the house for 3 hours, and when he returned, police arrived and told them, that they received information that he had a weapon which was being concealed. He also claimed that he was never cautioned.

Magistrate Cayetano, after reviewing all the evidence, dismissed the charged from against Ebanks setting him free.
