Women Accused of Assaulting Police

We always hear complaints about police abusing the public, but tonight the news is about members of the public accused of assaulting four police officers - and the accused include two women!

It happened yesterday at the Raccoon street police station where police were questioning 38 year old Felix Vanegas. His common-law wife, 32 year old Mexican national Reina Mayo, and his sister 28 YEAR OLD REINA VANegas got in the middle of it to defend him against police abuse they say.

But the police say they were the ones abused and they charged the trio with multiple counts of assaulting a police officer. Felix Vanegas was charged with 4 counts of assaulting a police officer. Police say he assaulted sergeant Dirk Dyer, detective constable Uribe Alamina, detective constable Ronel Flowers and police constable Anthony Simpson. He told the court he wasn't guilty and lifted his shirt to Senior Magistrate Fraser some bruises on his body. He said that he was taken to the back of a darkened cell where he was beaten with a gun until he messed himself. He said the police took him to a doctor who examined him and gave him a prescription, but the police held on to it and told that him they will give it to him after he has pled guilty to the charges.

As for Mayo the Mexican, she was accused of assaulting woman police constable Sherett Ciego and obstructing Sergeant Dyer from restraining her husband. Silva was charged with 1 count of assaulting Sergeant Dyer. All trhree pleaded not guilty and received bail.
