Whylie On Case File
posted (February 19, 2015)
So last night here at 7News, we made history - and the worst kind! For the first non-holiday weeknight in 21 years - we didn't present the news. Yes, there have been one or two all night long blackouts which stopped the show - but when the lights came back, the news was there - even if it meant having to see it at 6:00 in the morning! But last night, due to a critical equipment failure, there was no 7news - only the nightly transcript posted on our website.

But, not only wasn't there any news, the bad part is that the first time event didn't even give a good rake! All those faithful viewers who rushed out to buy the numbers 7 or 21 - got left with a bad taste in their mouth when "ought-six" played! And while we can't apologize for the bad luck of the boledo draw, we apologize again for the no-show; we've taken substantial back-up measures and promise it won't happen again.

But for those who missed some of last night's news, we present them now in digest form. First to Commissioner of police Allen Whylie. Yesterday, we caught him at a police event where we asked him about the Supreme Court Appeal of the Elvin Penner acquittal on passport and immigration offences.

The case hinged on Magistrate Aretha Ford's decision not to order Whylie to release the police file with the details of the Penner investigation. Yesterday, we asked Whylie if he is prepared disclose the police evidence in the case if the court orders him to:

The case goes back to court on February 27.
