Another Accident At Jaguar Paw Junction
posted (February 23, 2015)
There was another accident at mile 37 near the Jaguar Paw road this morning. Exactly one week ago on the 17th - in this same area- we reported on the fatal accident that claimed the life of one American while leaving another hospitalized. That accident involved an 18 wheeler and an SUV. Well, today another 18 wheeler was in the ditch after it hit a pedestrian. We were at the scene this morning and an eyewitness told us what happened.

Courtney Weatherburne Reporting
These squashed carrots belonged to 58 year old Pablo Martinez. He was carrying them this morning before he was run over by this 18 wheeler truck near the Jaguar Paw road.

While the rotten oranges from last week's fatal accident were still scattered on the side of the road. This fresh stain of blood in the dirt signaled another tragedy in this area.

George Jones, Eyewitness
"We saw the bus came in from Belize, it should have actually stop at the bus top here, but it actually went up a little further and actually stop off to the right going into Belmopan and a passenger came off and a gentleman was actually walking back into the direction to Belize on the left hand side. When we look up ahead, here comes this big truck. I don't know if the guy was sleeping, i don't know if he was texting, but all of a sudden the vehicle came and just turned into the left side of the road and hit the gentleman and then it end up in this ditch right here that you are seeing where the vehicle is. What happen is, I think the government needs to put some speed bumps or some type of violation on this part of road, because this is the second accident that actually happened here in less than a week. The guy had his whole right side of his face torn off. He had a big gush in the forehead, his neck was actually twisted a little bit, his left shoulder was broken and I think two of his spine was broken also. He was in a very terrible state. We called the ambulance, they took about 45 minutes to almost an hour to get here."

Although they took a while to get there, Martinez did get help and is listed in a stable condition at Medical Associates and is undergoing examination. We spoke with the driver of the truck, 38 year old Levi Figueroa and he told us that he was coming from Spanish Lookout and when he reached mile 37, the steering wheel got jammed - causing the accident. Figuerroa has been served with a notice of intended prosecution.
