Former Police Officer Burton Caliz Jr., who was convicted of murder, and got it reduced to Manslaughter, won his second appeal yesterday in the Court of Appeal. He was sentenced to pay a fine for killing 23 year-old Leroy Pilgrim, which happened in February of 2004. That happened at his last trial 2 years ago, but with today's outcome, that conviction and sentence was set aside.
His case was heard by the Court of Appeal, even without an attorney, the panel set aside his conviction and sentence. He was entered into a not guilty verdict by the Appeal Court Judges.
