EU Grant Will Be Used to Upgrade All 3 Regional Hospitals

ALSO, on the topic of health, there is an upcoming project for the construction of another wing at the Western Regional Hospital in Belmopan. The CEO spoke to us about how crucial this new addition will be for the safety of patients in the face of emergencies and natural disasters.

"The principal purpose of the 30 million dollars, is to construct a separate wing on the grounds of the Western Regional Hospital in Belmopan, especially to do many different things, but especially looking at the potential for natural disasters at Belize City, associated with climate change and the potential for evacuation of KHMH in such instances and then how do we maintained the importance and complex tertiary services which has been developed over the last years at KHMH. So, this new wing is intended to do that and also to help KHMH by being another referral center within the country."

The EU gave the Ministry of Health a $30 million Belize dollar grant for the construction of this wing. A portion of this grant will also be used to resolve structural issues at the Northern and Southern Regional hospitals.
