About 70 health professionals will be trained to rehabilitate drug users and addicts. Today that training program - PROCCER - was launched at the NaRCIE conference room at the Ministry of Education. The training will focus on prevention techniques, treatment and rehabilitation. Now, while training is one aspect, the availability of equipped rehabilitation centers is the other - and that's the major challenge hovering this program. CEO of the Ministry of Health Dr. Peter Allen says he is aware of this setback but that this training program is the first step in overcoming it.
The program will run for 6 months. The program is being funded by the OAS. They have contributed $66,000 Belize dollars to the program.
