Gold Cup Football Finance Review Amiss
posted (March 20, 2015)
At the top of the newscast we showed you the new national football team - and told you how they're lacking sponsors so the FFB has been spending its own money so far - 230 thousand dollars' worth of it - to keep the players in camp with a stipend. But they're hoping to get to at least the third round of qualifying - and Vicente says FFB will need your help!:

Ruperto Vicente, President - FFB
"Financially we are ready for our players and if we moved on to second round, we will need the public assistance even more if we moved on to the third round and we passed third round, we are looking at millions of dollars."

But before they ask the public to help with those millions - shouldn't the FFB account for the money spent on the last major international event - which was the Gold Cup? Well, they can't - and the reason behind it is quite a story. It's like the Americans say: "what had happened is"...

Ruperto Vicente, President - FFB
"Yes that is true. But there is a reason for that. When we took over the federation, we were green to what was happening and the mistake we made was that we had too many people handling the federation's monies. That was wrong on our part. And someone else was handling the federation's account and cheque books and so when we were preparing to produce our financial reports, we could not, because we found ourselves in difficulties since we knew the issue with Mr. Pelayo. He had all the cheque stubs and so on the cheques that we had, we could not say what they were written for, because when Mr. Pelayo took off, I had asked him to bring the cheque stubs for me, since he was traveling along with me to the United States and so when Mr. Pelayo got into trouble with the United States, he had the cheque stubs in his suitcase and that was taken and so we lost all that information and so we could not produce an adequate financial report."

Jules Vasquez
"Some might say the dog eat the report. It's saying that the executive member who in under multiple indictment for drug trafficking, he had the cheque stubs. I mean, how much in the hole in financing that these cheque stubs in suitcase, how much does that account for roughly, ballpark?"

Ruperto Vicente, President - FFB
"I don't have the exact figures with me now, but it's a huge amount. I don't not have the exact figures."

Rawell Pelayo - the Chairman of the national teams committee - as has been well publicized was nabbed by US Federal Agents in Houston on his way to the Gold Cup in Portland. He is imprisoned under Federal indictment.
