Cayman Team Not Joking With Jaguars in World Cup Qualifier
posted (March 24, 2015)
Right now, football fans are eagerly anticipating tomorrow night when the Belize National A Team, the Jaguars, taken on the Cayman Islands National Team in the first round of the FIFA World Cup qualifiers at FFB Stadium in Belmopan.

The Cayman Islands Team, arrived in country this morning, and 7News was at the airport to greet them. Remember how FFB President Ruperto Vicente was predicting that the Jaguars would win by 6 goals to nil? Well, we got a reaction from the Management of the Cayman Islands team. Here's what they told us:

Kennedy Kelly - Head of Cayman Islands Delegation
"We brought 19 players and we are hoping to get a good result here in Belize. We know it's going to be difficult, but we are prepared and we are hoping to come out at least with a point hopefully."

Renard Moxam - Director of Nat'l Teams, Cayman Islands
"We've done some research on the Belize group and we've watch some videos with them and their performance in the gold cup and we have some knowledge of them. We don't have a big library of Belize and the football history, but we know something about Belize. We've been down here before and we've looked at the facilities, we've look at the environment that we are going to be playing in and we try to adjust in plan accordingly. We've been in training camp for about 7-8 weeks and we've had a couple of games in Jamaica in preparation for the Belize games. We've also had a few one or two friendly games at home and the technical staff is pleased with the progress of the group that we have. It's a very young, but talented group, a group that is determined."

Daniel Ortiz
"To be blunt sir, the guys from Belize are predicting a win by 6 goals at least. They are saying that it's going to be a dog fight - the want to win, they want to advance. What's the perspective of the players from the Cayman team?"

Renard Moxam - Director of Nat'l Teams, Cayman Islands
"The Belize players and their technical staff have the right to voice their views and what they believe they can do. We also have a similar right, but at this moment I don't think it's appropriate for us to make those sort of statements."

The game starts at 8 o'clock tomorrow night at the newly upgraded FFB Stadium in Belmopan. For those of you who will be unable to make it to the match in person, you can catch it live here on Channel 7.
