Man Hacks Stepson To Death
posted (April 2, 2015)
Tonight, a Belize City family with 8 children is in the throes of grief and incomprehension after a violent episode last night ripped their family apart.

42 year old Patrick Castillo allegedly chopped his 20 year old stepson, Guatemalan Jose Maderos to death just after 9:00 last night. It happened in the family home at the corner of Kut and Amara Avenue in Belize City - in plan view of the small children.

Daniel Ortiz has this report form the scene last night:...

Daniel Ortiz reporting
When we arrived at this house on 3 Kut Avenue, respond to a report that there had been a chopping incident.

We found this man detained by a police. He was placed on the sidewalk in handcuffs, while the officer called for reinforcements.

That was the first sign that violence had been committed. A closer look at the man revealed that there was blood on his hands near the handcuff, and there were also flecks of blood on the back of his shirt, some in the shape of a hand print.

In the background, 5 little Girls crying on the verandah, their distress pellucid and in plain view gathering crowds.

They tried to comfort each other, while the officers who eventually arrived on scene tried their best to keep them calm.

After a short time, the man in the handcuffs was escorted away in a police mobile, no doubt to be questioned about what had happened.

A few more minutes elapsed, a police mobile then arrived on the scene with a stretcher. That meant that a body was inside, and that the chopping incident had been fatal.

Body removed from the house and placed on verandah, officers covered him up to preserve his dignity in death.

It was finally placed in the pan of the mobile and driven away to the morgue.

Back at the scene, the blood trails were then cataloged by the Scenes of Crime Technicians.

And after a sweep of the entire house, the officers removed a machete, believed to be the weapon which inflicted the fatal chop wounds to deceased man who was taken to the morgue.

All of this happened only A stone's throw away from Police Precinct 1, and the officers on the scene received very harsh criticism that a man was killed basically in the backyard of the police, and no one responded in time,

Yet, they were there in great numbers to pick up the pieces after the fact.
