posted (April 9, 2015)
An unidentified man was murdered in San Ignacio and Police need your help to identify him. But this is the only picture they have of him - and they begged us to put it on air - so that they can come up with an ID.

He was apparently beaten and left for dead on Holy Saturday when he was picked up by police at around 1:27 a.m. with an injury to the head. He never regained consciousness and died yesterday at the KHMH.

So now, it's another murder that police have to solve, but they need his family to come forward and identify him. This afternoon, the Deputy Commanding Officer of San Ignacio Police spoke with us today via phone about what they have been able to establish in the case so far:

Insp. Reymundo Reyes, Deputy Commander, Cayo Formation
"The information is that on Saturday 4th April, sometime around 1:27am, information was received from the San Ignacio police, of a male person laying on the ground by the Welcome Center area of San Ignacio Town. Police visited the scene and found a male person in an unconscious state with head injuries. As a result he was transported to the San Ignacio Community Hospital and later to KHMH for further treatment. Yesterday, 8th April, we were informed that the person had succumb to his injuries. At this moment we do not know the identity of this individual. At this moment we know that the injuries observed on him was on his face. He was swollen up with bruises around his eyes and on the right side of his temple. He also had some abrasions on his stomach and he was bleeding from his nose. Presently, we have emailed the photograph of this gentleman, who is of Hispanic decent - low straight hair, weighing about 160 pounds, medium built and a height of about 5 feet, 6 inches."

"At this moment the investigation is being carried out. We believe that with the assistance of the media houses, since the photograph has been sent to them, somebody will, by tomorrow morning definitely give us a call and give us the identity of this individual for us to continue our investigation. The investigation is suggesting that he was apparently attacked by 3 individuals who we are already in the process of looking for them within the Cayo District."

Late word to 7News is that he has been identified as a Bullet Tree resident - we'll confirm this tomorrow. Cayo police have confirmed that the man found unconscious after a beating in San Ignacio on Holy Saturday is Aurelio Montero from Bullet Tree. Police say his family called the station to say it is their brother who they thought was on duty for the Coast Guard where he is a sea-man. The family cannot confirm his identity until they visit the Belize City morgue tomorrow to see the body.
